👜 How to sell bags
Designer bags sell on proof, not on the brand name. Every serious buyer — and every marketplace authenticator the bag passes through — is building a case from your photos alone: stitch spacing, hardware weight, the date code. Shoot like you're filing evidence, not running an ad. Stand the bag against a plain wall, stuff it lightly with tissue so it holds its true silhouette, and light it from a window at 45° to bring out grain and patina. The shots that close the sale are the unglamorous ones: the date code, the zipper pull, the bottom corners.
📷 Photographing
- 🎨 Neutral background — light grey or off-white; leather and hardware both read true against it
- 💡 Window light at 45°, no flash — flash flattens grain and blows out polished hardware
- 📐 Front, back, and interior (lining, pockets, open main compartment) — the first three shots buyers scroll to
- 🔢 Serial or date code, tack sharp — usually stamped on a leather tab or inside a pocket; buyers verify it before they message you
- ⚙️ Hardware close-up: zippers, clasps, feet, and the logo plate — plating wear shows there first and hides nowhere
- 🔍 Bottom corners and piping, plus a close-up of every flaw — corner rub is the honesty shot; hiding it invites a not-as-described case
- 👛 Belts and wallets: shoot the buckle or hardware stamp, the size marking, the card slots, and the fold creases
📦 Packing & shipping
- 🧻 Stuff the bag with acid-free tissue or an air pillow so it ships holding its shape — a collapsed bag arrives creased and reads as damage
- 🔗 Wrap chain straps, buckles, and hanging hardware in tissue and tuck them inside — loose metal scratches leather and dents the panels in transit
- 👝 Include the dust bag, authenticity card, and any receipt or original box — buyers price the full set, and a missing dust bag is a common return reason
- 📦 Always ship boxed, never a poly mailer — dust bag around the bag, bubble wrap around that, 2" of fill on every side of a rigid box
- 🏷️ Insure the full value and use signature confirmation over $750 — it's what seller protection requires on high-value claims
